Super Trofeo: Comini celebrates double victory in season opener

Stefano Comini of Switzerland scored wins in both races at the start of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo season in Monza.
In the first race, Frenchman Dimitri Enjalbert managed to convert his pole position into a lead. There was no change in the top four positions over the first six laps, until Stefano Comini succeeded in slipping past the front-runner during the seventh lap. The lead was then assumed by Enjalbert's team colleague Bernard Delhez in the twelfth lap when solo driver Comini pulled in for a mandatory pit stop. Comini reclaimed the top position when he returned to the track, however, and held a comfortable lead until he crossed the finishing line. Enjalbert/Delhez finished in second place. The defending champion Cedric Leimar relinquished his third place to Tiff Needell and Mario Fasanetto, who had started in seventh place.
In the second race, Comini started in pole position. The Swiss man remained unparalleled over the 22 laps of the race, thereby securing his second win of the weekend. There was a close battle for second place between Italian Gianluca Carboni and Cedric Leimar, with the Italian ultimately winning by a whisker of 0.278 seconds.
